Cinnamon Spring’s LIGHTLUXE collection

Sometimes, I sell some of my own designs as it’s mostly to fund more of my own DIY projects!

My first collection, the LIGHTLUXE collection which I designed for jewellery to have a ‘luxe’ look without the heavy weight of it. I started off with earrings first, and made a collection with 6 pieces. Each piece was named after some of my favourite characters from my younger days: Phoenix, Faerie, Misty, Silky, Elven & Pixie. The collection which started off in the colours of “Hues of Blue” and “Radiant Orchid” (inspired by the Pantone Colour Of The year 2014) sold out completely, especially as it was launched before the Christmas season.

After that, I launched a next LIGHTLUXE collection and this time I was inspired by Birds of Paradise, beautiful birds with vibrant coloured feathers and elaborate mating dances:

After such encouraging response from my family, friends (old and new), I have decided to include necklaces to the LIGHTLUXE repertoire. So  here’s a teaser of my next collection:

DIY: Pyramid Stud Earrings

A very blessed Christmas! I hope you had a great one! Christmas is really a time to celebrate Jesus’ birth into this world. Jesus taught many about love, forgiveness and peace. When Jesus truly came into my life, my life changed. I had more joy, more peace…of course not without my own challenges. My burdens were no longer mine alone, but borne by Jesus also, thus making the load lighter.

Christmas is always a time to reflect, and I thank God for the blessings he’s showered upon me this year. I also want to thank you for reading this blog, if you have been following me! 🙂

I was clearing up photos in my phone today and chanced upon a number of DIYs. So here’s one reallllly simple one I made a few months back. There’s very little that you need to make pyramid stud earrings and they are super easy to make once you have the necessary things! Let’s start!

P.S: I am trying this Tiny Desk app from my phone so if the wording/format comes out wonky…let me know! What you need:

1. Pyramid studs
2. Flat earring studs
3. Flat-nose pliers (or your fingers will do)Steps:

1. Place pyramid stud over the flat bit of the earring stud.
2. Using the pliers, clamp down the pyramid stud’s ‘claws’!3. Once clamped down, the earrings will look like the above! You now have pyramid stud earrings hurray! How simple was that?! Enjoy! 🙂

DIY: Boho Double-Tassel Earrings

Tassel earrings have been on and off the runways for years now, and as I was exploring Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur recently I came upon pre-made beautiful tassels to my delight! If you are like me (aka. lazy) then making your own tassels requires some amount of effort. So when I chanced upon some…tassel earrings were one of those DIYs that I thought of making.

So here’s my simple tutorial on making boho-chic tassel earrings!

DIY: Boho Tassel Earrings

Let’s get started!

DIY: Boho Tassel Earrings

What you need:

  • Pliers
  • Small brightly coloured beads (here I used neon pink, blue & gold)
  • Tassels (or you can make your own)
  • Jumprings
  • 2 earring hooks
  • Eye pins (6 in total)

DIY: Boho Tassel Earrings

Step #1:

Take one eye pin and stack the beads. Here I went with pink-gold-blue.

Use a round-nose plier and close the end by making a loop.

Step #2:

Do Step #1 two more times to make a triangle.

Step #3:

Connect the ends – make sure you do not make your loop too small.

Step #4:

Attach a jumpring through the top bun of the tassel.

Attach this to both ends of the triangle.

Step #5:

Then at the peak of the triangle, take a jumpring and attach it to an earring hook.

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

I rarely make my own earrings, preferring to buy them most of the time. I had bought these gems that can be sewn onto fabric, for another project in mind. However, it’s very common that some DIY projects just fail completely! 😦 So I had these spare black and silver gems. I was playing around with shapes, imagining how’d it be like if I had real gems to work with! Then an idea struck me then, and I decided to make a very simple but statement-like leather gem earrings! 😀 I still have tangerine-coloured leather from my previous leather collar studded project, and it provides an amazing pop of colour!

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

Here’s what you need:

  • Leather (here I used leather in tangerine)
  • Plastic gems (I used square and oval ones)
  • 2 jumprings
  • 2 earring hooks
  • Tweezer/something sharp and small (not necessary)
  • Hand-held hole puncher
  • Pliers
  • Scissors/knife
  • Super glue
  • Paper/tracing paper
  • Pen/pencil

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

I decided on the above shape. 3 square gems stacked vertically ending with 3 oval gems. Put them into position on a piece of paper, and then start outlining it with a pen/pencil and ruler. This will take probably a few tries to perfect the measurements though you don’t notice it once you are wearing them!

Cut it out, and then trace onto the back of the leather. Cut the leather.

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

Before you begin sticking your plastic gems, place the gems in its positions next to the cut-out leather pieces. Then I started sticking!

Tip: Start with the side silver gems like above, so that the black square gems will not be placed too high or too low!

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

The earrings should look roughly like this when the plastic gems have already been stuck on with superglue. Wait for a few minutes for the glue to really set!

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

Once the glue has set, and the gems are no longer ‘moving’ at a rough touch – it is time to trim those bottom edges! Originally I was going to leave it be, until it looked better without the extra empty spaces. If you are smarter than me, you would have already trimed the bottom bits on the paper 😉

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

Punch a hole in the middle at the top with the hole puncher! Alternatively, you can always just use something sharp to poke a hole.

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

Use pliers to attach a jumpring to each earring, and then attach the earring hook and you are done! 😀

DIY: Funky Leather Gem Earrings

I really do love wearing these earrings because they look like statement earrings and they are so, so light! 😀 I will make more variations in the future but for now I will rock these ones 😉

I hope you enjoy this simple DIY, and I’d love to see your creations! xx
